Citizenship and Legal Services

Hogar Immigrant Services' goal is to help newcomers become self-sufficient and productive members of American society by offering a combination of legal immigration consultation and representation, English-language instruction, other adult education programs, workforce development training, naturalization assistance, and bilingual community education.

Catholic Charities’ Hogar Immigrant Services – Legal program is now conducting remote legal consultations, by phone and videoconference, with new clients!  If you or someone you know has questions about your immigration status or needs immigration legal assistance, contact our office at (703) 534-9805 or hogar@ccda.net to see if we can help or to schedule a consultation. Because of a recent grant, Hogar’s fees may be waived for some Alexandria City clients, depending on eligibility.

Citizenship Services

Naturalization is the process of becoming a citizen. Hogar Immigrant Services’ Citizenship and Naturalization Program includes TWO services for those interested in becoming a citizen- Citizenship Application Assistance and Citizenship Interview Preparation.*

*Classes are in English only, so they are a great way to improve your English conversation skills as well.

Our Legal Services

Please note that we cannot provide legal advice without conducting a full consultation to understand your specific situation.  If you would like to discuss your case with an Hogar attorney, please call our office at (703) 534-9805 to schedule a consultation appointment, which will be conducted remotely during COVID-19.  Monday-Thursday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (Closed Fridays and Weekdays 12-1pm)

If you are a current client, call our main number and ask for your caseworker, or listen to the recorded message and dial the extension of your caseworker. If you are a current client and do not know who your caseworker is, please call our main number and leave a message. We will return your phone call as soon as possible

To implement our mission, Hogar’s Legal Services offers immigration legal assistance. Hogar's bilingual immigration attorneys specialize in the following types of cases:

  • Immigration legal consultations
  • Cases involving Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC’s) – asylum, U Visas, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS)
  • Obtaining lawful permanent residence (green card)
  • Family petitions (I-130s)
  • Adjustment of Status
  • U Visas, T Visas, and relief under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)
  • Naturalization applications
  • Citizenship certificates
  • Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)
  • Employment Authorization
  • Green card renewals (I-90 applications)
  • Temporary Protected Status (TPS)
  • NACARA
  • Travel documents and FOIA Requests
  • Removal Defense before the Immigration Court
  • Waivers of Inadmissibility and I-601A Waivers

Hogar does not accept the following types of cases: Detained cases, employment-based visas or labor certifications, non-immigrant visas, and consular processing.
