Focusing on children with special needs for National Adoption Month

November is National Adoption Month. Catholic Charities is highlighting the need for special adoptions, as we have encountered an increased need for families open to adopting children in medically complex situations. Creating a pathway for families to say “yes” in this way is an authentically pro-life response.

Seniors Welcome a Shepherd to the Center

On October 4, Bishop Burbidge visited St. Martin de Porres Senior Center in Alexandria. He swapped stories, played games, toured the garden and encouraged participants. St. Martin de Porres participants are diverse: men and women of ages ranging from 60s to 80s.

Helping a New Mom in Need

Carmen, a single mom who had her first baby in March, fell behind on her rent following her unpaid maternity leave. “Our clients do a lot of financial juggling just to get by. When an unexpected expense comes up, they just can’t make it without help,” said Sherri Longhill, EA program director.

Since establishing their car repair assistance program, thanks to our donors and friends, Catholic Charities has helped 14 families with repair assistance, totaling $57,167 (as of January 31).
