On February 2, Catholic Charities held its 42nd annual Ball. More than 1,000 people gathered to celebrate the great works of Catholic Charities, and raise over $1.6 million to support those in need.

In November, Catholic Charities is highlighting the need for special adoptions, as there is an increased need for families open to adopting children in medically complex situations. Creating a pathway for families to say “yes” in this way is an authentically pro-life response.

On October 4, Bishop Burbidge visited St. Martin de Porres Senior Center in Alexandria. He swapped stories, played games, toured the garden and encouraged participants. St. Martin de Porres participants are diverse: men and women of ages ranging from 60s to 80s.

Through the Men’s Transitional Housing Program at Catholic Charities Christ House, Ronald Redman, 62, learned the importance of structure and daily routines. “I didn’t know I had this much life in me. I never knew I could be doing the things I’m doing,” Redman says.

Helping a New Mom in Need

Carmen, a single mom who had her first baby in March, fell behind on her rent following her unpaid maternity leave. “Our clients do a lot of financial juggling just to get by. When an unexpected expense comes up, they just can’t make it without help,” said Sherri Longhill, EA program director.
