Resettling Refugees Since 1975

Refugee Services

Migration and Refugee Services is one of the national affiliates of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Last year, MRS provided services to about 3,000 refugees, both new arrivals and existing clients. All refugees who enter our program have undergone extensive background checks by the U.S. State Department. In addition, 89% of those whom we are currently assisting currently serve came to the United States after assisting the U.S. military abroad.

We presently offer services at four sites throughout the Diocese of Arlington: Alexandria, Manassas, Woodbridge, and Fredericksburg. At each of the sites, a comprehensive array of resettlement services is offered so that newcomers can become self-sufficient as soon as possible after arrival.

Staff members offer case management services in culturally appropriate languages - At present our staff members speak over 20 different languages.

These services are made possible by grants from the Virginia Office of New Americans and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and also through the financial support of churches, parishes, community foundations and organizations, and individual donors.

      Walk-In Clients

MRS welcomes refugees and asylees living in Northern Virginia up to five years after arrival or asylum approval to participate in our employment, youth, school children, senior and health programs.

Migrants and refugees are not pawns on the chessboard of humanity. They are children, women, and men who leave or are forced to leave their homes for various reasons, who share a legitimate desire for knowing and having, but above all for being more.
