We presently offer services at six sites throughout the Diocese of Arlington: Arlington, Alexandria, Manassas, Sterling, Woodbridge, and Fredericksburg. At each of the sites, a comprehensive array of resettlement services is offered so that newcomers can become self-sufficient as soon as possible after arrival.
Staff members offer case management services in culturally appropriate languages - At present our staff members speak over 20 different languages.
These services are made possible by grants from the Virginia Office of New Americans and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and also through the financial support of churches, parishes, community foundations and organizations, and individual donors.
Resettlement and Placement Services (Only for new arrivals through our agency)
- Housing during the first 30-120 days after arrival
- Provision of donated household goods in housing prior to arrival
- Case management services in culturally appropriate languages
- Cultural and community orientation
- Orientation to public transport and, when available, receipt of donated used cars in order to get to an employment site
- Transportation, accompaniment, and interpretation services to apply for benefits at the Department of Social Services, to register for a social security card, to register children in school, to attend initial health appointments and ESOL classes
- Referrals to other services, such as mental health providers, as needed
- Interpretation services as needed
- A matching program with volunteers who aid in cultural and community orientation, in-home ESOL tutoring, transportation, etc.
Employment Services including:
(Available for any refugee, SIV, or asylee living in Northern Virginia up to 5 years after arrival or asylum approval)
- Pre-employment training
- Résumé building
- Computer and technical career training
- Support in identifying employment opportunities, applying for employment and preparing for interviews
- Transportation to, interpretation for, and advocacy for the client during interviews
- Follow-up with the client throughout the placement process

Walk-In Clients
MRS welcomes refugees and
asylees living in Northern Virginia up to five years after arrival or asylum
approval to participate in our employment, youth, school children, senior and health programs.
