Volunteer with Hogar

Volunteers play a critical role at Hogar. We have more than 800 active volunteers across our program, and we could not serve thousands of immigrants each year were it not for the generosity and dedication of our volunteers.

World Day of Migrants and Refugees

Targeted by the Ethiopian government, he now helps refugees like himself #39

Sep 25, 2019

Belayneh Loppisso helped uncover government corruption in his home country of Ethiopia. When the government threatened his safety, he had to forge a new life for himself and his family in the U.S. Fifteen years later, Loppisso is the program director for Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington’s Migration and Refugee Services. Now, every day he helps refugees and asylees to adjust to a new life in this country – and hears stories of struggle sometimes even more difficult or harrowing than his own. Listen to his story on Searching for More podcast.
