Donations
Without an automobile, it is difficult for many families to find work, shop or transport handicapped and/or non-handicapped children to medical appointments. Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington receives donations of cars in good condition from generous people in the Northern Virginia area (north and west of Fredericksburg), and provides them to persons who have been verified as needy. If you have a car in good working condition and wish to donate it, your donation is fully tax-deductible.
Prospective Recipients
A person who needs a car must be referred. A letter from a reliable source (e.g. priest, minister, social worker) should outline the needs of the person and their own knowledge of that person. Only one automobile will be given to any one person, as the purpose is help in a particular time of need, which should be specified in the letter. Although there is no charge for the cars, recipients must have a valid Virginia driver’s license and be able to purchase license plates and insurance. Letters are to be sent to Harry Burke, 200 N. Glebe Road, Suite 250, Arlington, VA 22203. Requests will be prioritized and prospective recipients will be placed on a waiting list. Being placed on the list does not guarantee a car will be received. Much depends on the donations we receive.
