Good Things Come in Small Shoeboxes: Catholic Charities’ Spring Volunteer Event

Who: Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington

What: Catholic Charities will hold a community-wide ‘SHOEBOX EVENT’ in which volunteer participants will decorate and pack hundreds of shoeboxes for low-income seniors, the homeless, the hungry and those who rely on the many food pantries Catholic Charities operates and supports.

Participants will bring such useful ‘surprises’ as hygiene and grooming items, nonperishable snacks, and small gift items to be packed into the shoeboxes at the event. The shoeboxes will be distributed by Catholic Charities through its many programs.

“The boxes will let those who may be suffering know we care about them and they are not forgotten,” said Sally O’Dwyer, Catholic Charities’ vice-president of community services.

This is a recommended family activity.  All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.  Groups are welcome and service hours available. A detailed list of suggested items for the shoeboxes can be found at:
Also, empty shoeboxes are appreciated.

When: Saturday, April 14, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: St. Thomas More Cathedral, 3901 North Cathedral Lane, Arlington, Virginia 22203.
